Schiele is known for his passionate audacity, painting nudes that practically come to life on canvas. But here’s the twist: his style changes direction with ‘Portrait of Edith’, a painting that is all about sweetness. Edith wears a dress made from the curtains in his studio, a touching symbol.

Their love story escalated fast; they married just before Schiele was conscripted.
