These socks are inspired by a floral composition from ‘Relais’ (1930), a posthumously published limited edition featuring stencil patterns by the French artist Édouard Benedictus. These kinds of luxury design editions were intended to be used, copied and adapted into textiles, wallpaper and fashion. Through this and his earlier work, Benedictus had a major influence on the Art Deco movement and the applied arts in the early 20th century.

Benedictus was not only an artist, but also a chemist and inventor. For example, he discovered laminated safety glass by chance when a glass laboratory bottle with a thin plastic layer on it fell and shattered without splintering – an invention that is still used today in car windows.

His flowers reflect that same mindset: not delicate botanical studies, but controlled explosions of colour – layered, repeated, almost technically designed.
