Socks by Matisse_Apples
These socks are inspired by the works of Henri Matisse, the French artist known for his vibrant colors, expressive brushwork and innovative compositions. Matisse worked in painting, sculpture and printmaking.
But in his seventies, when illness left him unable to stand at an easel, he reinvented his practice – he began to “paint with scissors”. His assistants painted large sheets of paper in bold colours, and Matisse cut the shapes freehand. The colours were so intense that his doctor advised him to wear dark glasses.
Matisse called these years his “une seconde vie” — a second life. And when asked how he felt after his operation? He reportedly exclaimed: “Long live joy… and french fries!” You can sense this touch of YOLO in every aspect of this still life.
